G-Link Series

Over the last several years, we have been privileged to bring a number of wonderful programs to the community via videoconference.
This annual series of free events, the G-LINK Series, represents a wide array of fascinating speakers from various parts of the United States.

1. “The Story of Pro Football”
by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH

Are you a diehard football fan? Do you mourn when the
Super Bowl is over for another year? Or do you wonder
what all the fuss is about? Join us for a fun evening as Jerry Csaki from
the Pro Football Hall of Fame gives us some insight into this American
cultural phenomenon. Maybe we can even ask him to speculate about
which Indy Colts players look like potential Hall of Famers! (Recommended
for 4th graders through adults)
Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 7:00-8:00 P.M.

2. “Finding the Heart of the Story”
An encore presentation by author Ben Mikaelsen

“What is it that brings a tear or scares the tapioca pudding
out of you? What makes you choke laughing? Much of my
research finds me searching for those feelings – the heart
of my story. When students ask me how to become a better writer, I
answer, ‘Go out and live!...Experience life. Then never quit writing about
it!’” Among his well-loved books are Touching Spirit Bear, Countdown,
and Tree Girl. Don’t miss Mr. Mikaelsen’s captivating account of
“finding the heart of the story!” (Strongly recommended for 4th graders
through adults)
Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 7:00-8:30 P.M.

3. “A Missing Chapter?”
by Ruth Okimoto, Japanese internment camp survivor

“With little notice, [we] were gathered up and ordered to
leave [our] homes, businesses and friends …[We] could
only take what [we] could carry and were moved
to...internment camps...“ Sounds like a foreign country? No, it was
1940’s America after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Dr. Okimoto
joins us to share her story—that of a child growing up in the Poston
(AZ) internment camp. (Recommended for 5th graders through adults)
Monday, February 22, 2010 from 7:00-8:00 P.M.
